My Television Debut

zona and sandersI just finished watching my television debut on the Bassmaster Classic Preview that aired on ESPN2 Sunday. My friends and family are excited for me but it just reminds me of what could’ve been. I’ve been trying to forget about my near miss and this show doesn’t help.

It’s a funny world. I’ve been dreaming about being on one of those televised tournaments for years but I would’ve never guessed that the first thing Mark Zona said about me was that “He made the biggest mistake of his life by weighing in that short fish”.  Nice.

If I ever run into Zona, I’m gonna call him out on it and then offer to buy him a beer.

That fish seemed like it measured on their courtesy board and I got 3 people to verify it before I weighed that fish in. I’m still trying to figure out what the heck happened. A couple of other guys in the tournament said the same thing happened to them.

Do fish actually tense up sometimes and become shorter? Did measuring that fish on the courtesy board make it tense enough to be short? Did myself and 3 others make a mistake in measuring that fish?

Heck I don’t know. In any case, it’s one stinkin way to lose.

Some days I think there’s never gonna be another chance like that again to make it into the Classic and other days I believe I have the talent to do it again and win this time.

Either way, I just like to go fishing all the time and fishing tournaments so practicing enough really won’t be a factor.

I’ve received lots of encouragement which makes things a little easier but who knows.

I hope this tournament wasn’t a fluke and I’ll get my chance again so the next time I’m on tv, I’ll be the one holding the trophy. I just hope there is a next time.
