My name is Hojin in Windermere, FL and you guessed it… I love throwin that trap around. This blog is about my quest to figure out how to become a pro bass angler and make enough money to support my addiction through fishing. I really have no clue how to go about it, and will be a challenge for sure.
So far I’ve had some decent finishes to give me confidence that I can do this for a living. I’ve won some local tournaments, finished the 2009 season ranked #2 in the nation for the Bassmaster Weekend Series, and nearly became the first Korean to participate in the Bassmaster Classic. I’m currently fishing the BASS Southern Opens and hope to add more tournaments to the schedule as my finances allow.
The more I research this topic, it seems like you not only have to figure out how to fish but you also gotta have enough money for all the tournament entry fees and traveling expenses which can total close to the six figure range at the highest levels of competition. It ain’t like golf or basketball where you’re guaranteed to make money if you’re good. There’s lots of guys out there who’ve qualified for the Elites or FLW and did not fish because of the lack of finances.
All I know is that I’m consumed by trying to figure out these fish whether it be where they’re at or the latest gizmos to lure them in. I would love to earn a living from fishing, but anyone who’s spent time on the water knows that 2 + 2 doesn’t always equal 4 in this game. I’ve recorded every bass fishing show in the universe for years and always thirsting for more knowledge.
There are days when I start thinking what the hell am I doing, but I’m ready to go again the next day. There are nights when I can’t sleep cause I’m thinking about what’s going on with the fish and different ways to catch’em. Sometimes I’m right and I think I’m a genius and other times I’m wrong and it’s back to the drawing board for a new gizmo to tie on or location to fish. It’s maddening I tell ya, but I am confident I’ll succeed some day although it may take a while.
I spend all of my free time fishing and spend way too much money at tackle store so there’s gonna be some thoughts on equipment as well. I don’t know if I have some weird lure collector gene or just a tackle crack addict.
All the reviews will be straight up and I probably spend more money at the tackle shop than the grocery store so I’ve checked out quite a few gizmos.
Originally, this blog was intended to be an online journal for myself, but is now turning into a great way to get feedback on my crazy ideas and some of them are actually right according to a few.
I encourage all readers to let me know your thoughts. Every time I think I got it figured out, I don’t. I don’t mind being wrong, I’m just looking to improve… plain and simple.
